SAM™ is the First and Only Fully Synthetic, Antimicrobial, Biocompatible Matrix

SAM™ Technology addresses needs of complex wounds with its ability to integrate various wound care agents into a single matrix — delivering a one-product solution that provides multiple advantages across the wound healing process.  

SAM™ can be used at the onset of wound treatment following debridement or in surgery, including in conjunction with other wound management technologies and solutions.

UNIQUE SYNTHETIC AND CONFORMABLE MATRIX:

  • The ultra-thin, fully synthetic and porous matrix is composed of a proprietary blend of bioresorbable polymers, is non-pyrogenic, and does not require removal following application. The matrix is bioresorbed within one week.8
  • Upon contact with wound fluid, SAM™ conforms to the micro-textures of the wound bed, in close contact with microbes on the tissue surface and in a way that helps to prevent voids for bacteria to proliferate and exudate to pool.
  • SAM™ is also permeable to oxygen and moisture vapor.11
  • SAM™ does not contain any human or animal-derived tissues or cells. Risks or opposition generally associated with allograft or xenograft products do not exist.

 


IDEAL MOIST WOUND-HEALING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Hydrophilic polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in SAM™ absorbs wound fluid and helps maintain ideal moisture right where it is needed to create a cytophilic, moist wound-healing environment.11
  • A moist wound healing environment enables faster healing, reduces pain, inflammation, and infection risk, enhances autolytic debridement, minimizes scarring, and preserves growth factors.2,3

THE “SAM™ SCAFFOLDING EFFECT”:

  • No thicker than a human hair, the matrix’s PEM (polyelectrolyte multilayers) surface has an ideal mechanical strength to enable cells to attach, adhere, migrate, and proliferate — this is the “SAM™ Scaffolding Effect“. 
  • This cytophilic (“cell friendly”) matrix is designed to mimic human ECM4,8,10 and in studies12 has demonstrated its support of healthy and uniform cell growth:

SUSTAINED ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY: 

  • The surface coating architecture of SAM™ is optimized to contain a low and safe level of evenly distributed metallic and ionic silver to deliver rapid, effective, and sustained antimicrobial action for up to 72 hours
  • SAM™ is microbicidal on most types of clinically relevant pathogens, including MRSA, VRE and Pseudomonas, even with only containing a low level of silver.
  • The reduction of bacterial bioburden may decrease microbial colonization and risks of wound infection.
